As the dust settles on Nigeria’s bittersweet 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has issued a bold warning to the rest of the continent.
As the building gets closer to its end. Ndidi believes that the current Nigerian squad will soon be Africa’s new powerhouse.
For Ndidi, the semifinal penalty shootout loss to Morocco was not the end of a cycle but the beginning of a relentless new chapter.
Speaking at a pre-match conference ahead of the showdown against Egypt, Ndidi painted a picture of the squad finally finding its soul under head coach Eric Chelle.
“When we talk about the future, I will say this is a team to be proud of,” Ndidi said before adding; “Watch out for this team in the next few years.”
Ndidi’s confidence hardly stems from blind optimism. He credits the shift in the team’s DNA to the demanding culture established by the head coach Eric Chelle.
Under the tutelage of Chelle, the Super Eagles have transitioned from a collection of individual stars to a cohesive, high-pressing unit thus scoring 14 goals in the games played sofar.
Nigeria will conclude the 2025 AFCON campaign with a third-place playoff against Egypt in Casablanca on Saturday.
