Across 14 matchdays, 7 women’s teams are going to play in a home and away format to determine the winner of the premiership.
The She Wolves, who finished bottom of the log last year in both the 15s and 7s, now survive relegation in the new restructured set up. For 2026, there shall be no relegation nor promotion, with the regional Women’s XVs competitions getting cancelled.
The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) announced that there shall be a core status Qualifiers competition played in a league format of 4 regional teams played over 6 weeks. URU urges the regional clubs to “focus instead on community growth, governance and expanded regional women’s 7s participation,” as the statement read.
The Black Pearls, who are the defending champions of the league, start their campaign against the Ewes at the Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere. They come into the season as favourites, having missed out on the Uganda Cup and National 7s last year. Whether Emilly Lekuru is available or not, the Pearl’s still have more firepower within their ranks to put up good competition.
The Thunderbirds, who were runners up last season, travel to Jinja to play the Nile Rapids. Knowing that they narrowly missed out on the title due to points, the Thunderbirds have to start as strong as possible and score as many points as they can against a stubborn Rapids side.
The two lower ranked sides in the She Wolves and the Panthers shall clash in Mbale, well knowing that relegation has now been brought back on the table in 2027, which makes this a competitive encounter.
