The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has announced Goran Lojo as the Head Coach of the Uganda National Men’s Basketball Team, also known as the Silverbacks.

Lojo takes over from George Galanopolous, who has been handling the team at major competitions for the last eight years.

The Bosnian joins the Silverbacks with an international coaching resume spanning elite club basketball, national teams, and youth development systems across Europe.

Hehas served as Head Coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Women’s National Team, where he led the program to the most successful period that included a fifth-place finish at the 2021 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket and qualifying for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, the country’s first appearance at the global showpiece.

Lojo also served a short stint with the Uganda National Women’s team, also known as the Gazelles, overseeing their training campin Germany, leading up to the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers.

The first assignment for Lojo is the upcoming first round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers.

The first leg of the qualifiers will be played from February 26 to March 1 in the Egyptian capital Cairo or the coastal city of Alexandria, where Uganda will take on the hosts Egypt, Angola and Mali.
