Overview:
The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), a corporate body mandated to regulate and oversee lotteries, gaming, and betting. It was established under the Lotteries and Gaming Act No. 7 of 2016, with the mandate of creating a fair, transparent, and well-regulated gaming environment that benefits the nation while protecting Ugandans from the adverse effects of gaming.
The Uganda National Lotteries and Gaming Board has projected that over UGX14.1 Trillion will be staked through gambling and sports betting in 2025/26.
This projection is owing to the operationalization of the National Central Electronic Monitoring System.
This system has increased Government’s oversight and visibility over the gambling activities across the country.
The revelation was made by Bernard Winyi, Senior Manager – Finance and Administration, at the National Lotteries and Gaming Board.
Winyi was appearing before Parliament’s Finance Committee to present the Board’s 2026/27 National Budget Framework Paper on Wednesday 21st January, 2026.
Gambling and sports betting remain key revenue sources for the Government.
These activities are regulated by the National Lotteries and Gaming Board.
