- Tournament: Women’s Elite League
- Dates: Jan 27 – Feb 1
- Teams: Bujjagali Rafter, Itanda Kayakers and Karuma Rapids
- Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval
The cricket season will start with the women’s elite league, featuring three teams of local players selected from different regions.
The teams feature mostly young and upcoming players, a clear indication of Cricket Uganda’s priorities as they prepare for the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers later in the year.
The three teams include Bujjagali Rafters, Itanda Kayakers and Karuma Rapids. The sides will play 10 games, including a final with the winning team walking away with one million shillings.
All the games will be played at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. The teams will play a round robin format with the top two sides meeting in the final.
The team captains include Janet Mbabazi for the Itanda Kayakers, Alako Proscovia for the Karuma Rapids and Stephanie Nampiina for the Bujjagali Rafters.
The elite league brings together the best players in the country, carefully selected by the technical team and usually features the best junior players, young upcoming players mixed up with the senior Victoria Pearls players. The purpose is to make sure the best players can compete amongst themselves, since this is not achievable when they play for their clubs.
The league will run from 27th January to 1st February with games in the morning and afternoon.
