Heathens have once again shown why they are the most successful rugby club in Uganda by extending their sponsorship deal.
At a time when Heathens had no sponsor, up stepped Platinum Credit, first with a modest sleeve sponsorship, then they made the partnership official with a three-year sponsorship package.
Speaking at the official launch, long-term fan and newly elected Heathens club chairman, Desire Derekford Mugumisa, specially thanked the sponsor.
“Our partnership began at an unprecedented time during COVID. When other companies were pulling out, Platinum Credit was coming in,” he noted.
Mugumisa also thanked the sponsor for always going above and beyond the sponsorship figures with some extra cash.
“When we’ve knocked on the doors of PCL, they’ve always said, ‘we have a little more.’ The numbers you see on paper are only the official figures,” he remarked.
This sponsorship extension not only benefits Heathens as a club, but Kyadondo as well, a development that brings joy to the Kyadondo Chairman, Sir Ian Walker.
“PCL signing for a second time is something huge. With that partnership, players are able to get their allowances and focus on the pitch. The values of Kyadondo are very well aligned with the values of PCL, that’s why we share this vision,” he noted.
Albert Abaasa, the PCL Managing Director, was immensely pleased with how far the partnership has come, noting that a deal that started as a test has delivered beyond expectations. It’s on that note that he stated, “We commit that as long as this partnership is successful, we shall continue to be a part of it.”
The sponsorship package is worth 350,000,000 Uganda Shillings, spread out across three years, all in cash. This is to be disbursed in timely instalments directly to the club.
Extra expenditures like dinners and sponsor engagements are to be handled by the sponsor and are outside the sponsorship package.
