Mark William Lukwago is officially a KOB after leaving the Entebbe Mongers.

On February 1, the Mongers took to their X account to bid farewell to a loyal servant who has served the club diligently. The message read, “Thank you, Lukwago William, for your passion, skill and unforgettable contributions to Entebbe Mongers Rugby Club.”

For his entire senior career, Lukwago has been a Mongers player. A proud old boy of St. Mary’s College, Kisubi, Lukwago has called Entebbe home for most of his life, but he now makes the move to Naguru, Kampala.

In recent years, Mongers have faced a slow descent from challenging for trophies in their golden years, to being a mainstay in the mid-table positions in the 2010’s, and as recently as 2025, being involved in a relegation scrap and surviving.

Lukwago made his mark on Ugandan rugby in the 7s game, earning a call-up to the wider training squad and eventually making the cut for international tournaments. In the 15s, he is a formidable fullback who can start attacks from deep in his half. As a playmaker, he can also deputise at fly-half. Given his speed, step and finishing ability, wing is another position he can play.

He now goes into a KOBs squad that has Ibrahim Khemis and Karim Arinaitwe as the first choice 15s, with youngsters like Rasul Abiriga ready to strap up. Lukwago’s transition into the Blue Army is likely to be smooth, as he is going to be a part of the new shape as the seasoned players start to make way for younger blood.

Mongers may not enjoy the services of players like Lukwago and Robin Odrua anymore, but they’ve brought new firepower in the form of Rugby Cranes winger Shakim Ssembusi.
