Clinton Kamugisha was on target as Mbarara City secured a hard fought 1-0 victory against Calvary in Uganda Premier League encounter.

In the game played at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge, the Ankole Lions returned to winning ways from a tough loss to SC Villa and a draw to Maroons.

Both sides came out of their blocks as they searched for an opening game but were not perfect on the front foot.

Midway through the opening stanza, Ibrahim Dada came close to giving Calvary the lead through a freekick but the effort went above the frame.

At the stroke of the first half, John Rogers guided the ball into the back of the net, but Calvary’s goal was disallowed after a handball was spotted during the buildup.

In the 52nd minute, Dada nearly found the back of the but her powerful effort went slightly wide of the target.

Kamugisha broke the deadlock in the 54th minute to give the home crowd a reason to jubilate on the day.

Dada was again had a chance to get his name on the score sheet but his volley from close range went narrowly wide.

The victory takes Mbarara City to the 12th position with 15 points while Calvary remain bottom of the league log with four points.
