CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has given assurance to AFCON 2027 hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda that the tournament will go on as earlier planned.
There have been reports in recent days indicating the tournament could be postponed due to the delay in the aforementioned nations meeting certain standards especially in regard to the sporting infrasfructure.
While addressing the media on Friday in Dar es Salaam after the CAF Executive Committee Meeting, Motsepe confirmed that nothing will change in regard to AFCON 2027.
“AFCON next year in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will enormously be successful. I have seen in recent days, speculations in media, social media, even the Guardian Newspaper in London that I’m here to take away the tournament because the three countries will not be ready, that is totally unfounded,” he started.
“Will there be challenges, yes of course. I remember the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, several people told me to take away the tournament saying they were not ready but we have to believe in ourselves as Africans. Same thing was said about Ivory Coast.” Added Motsepe.
Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are working around the clock to make sure they meet the CAF requirements in aa far as hosting AFCON is concerned.
The CAF inspection team is currently in the region to check on the readiness of some of the infrastructure including road, rail networks, airports, hoapitals, training grounds and stadiums among others.
