- Police 1-2 Lugazi
Lugazi eject Police to clinch a ticket into the ongoing Uganda Cup Round of 16.
Lugazi secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Police in the Uganda Cup encounter at Police Arena, Kamwokya on Friday evening.
Police came into this game after a disappointing one-all draw against Buhimba United in the Uganda Premier League.
It was a cold evening, with a soggy playground that had been destabilised by a heavy downpour that began on Friday afternoon.
The game started at a low pace as the two sides struggled to find the right rhythm of the game due to the slippery ground on the day.
In the 35th minute, Umar Kyebatala called Police’s goalkeeper Edward Kasibante to action after the forward sent a venomous effort on target, but the custodian was equal to the challenge.
With five minutes to end the opening stanza, Kasibante made a magnificent double save to deny Kyebatala from close range.
On top of the hour, Kyebatala broke the deadlock with a brilliant curling effort after being set up by Alvin Birungi’s calm defense splitting pass.
Abdul Kalanzi doubled Lugazi’s lead in the 63rd minute with deeping ball from the right flank finding Police’s backline out of shape in the corner kick.
Lugazi’s lanky defender, Joseph Otieno guided the ball into his net in the 73rd minute thus giving the hosts belief with 17 minutes left on the clock.
Police were awarded a freekick in a great position but Brian Obedi placed it above the frame before the center referee placed the ball above the frame.
