In a bid to spread the Zurkhaneh sports to the different corners of the country, the Uganda Zurkhaneh Sports Association (UZSA) has confirmed intensive workshop in Northern Uganda.

The workshop will take place in Gulu city during mid-March 2026.

The development was communicated by the president Eddie Gombya during an interactive press conference at the association headquarters in the heart of Kampala.

“As we plan to spread the Zurkhaneh sports to the different places in Uganda, we shall hold the training workshop in Gulu city, next month (March 2026)” Gombya revealed.

New athletes are expected to be recruited as well as coaches (trainers).

Different districts of Northern Uganda and the West Nile region will all converge in Gulu for this seminar as the game spreads to the countryside.

Experienced instructors as Deo Bago, Ivan Wong Ssenyondo and Robert Kizito will conduct both the theory and practical sessions.

Last year, over 70 clubs from the Eastern and North East districts were trained in Iganga district.

This training also follows the latest training held at the Ali Mustafa College in Kyengera also graced by the Iranian Ambassador in Uganda.

Late last year, Uganda took part during the 5th Zurkhaneh World Cup hosted in New Delhi city, India.

Recently, two young players (Nahia Nayiga and Haytham Lubega) returned from a high-level training camp in Ismailia city, Egypt for Wushu sport in preparation for the 2026 Youth Olympics due in Dakar, Senegal.
