Mercy Nyachama, also the reigning Uganda Ladies Open Amateur Open champion opened the first round with 4-over-75, registering a single birdie on the par-3 hole 12. During round two, she improved with 3-over-74; having two birdies on par 5 holes 1 and 18. For the final round, she had a great showing of the championship with a course level score (71 gross); scoring three birdies on the back nine on holes 11, 13 and 15.

Kenya’s top female golfer, Mercy Nyachama, endured a torrid three days during the 2026 MTN Entebbe Ladies Open Golf championship in Uganda. She won the overall title, nonetheless.
Hours before tee-off on the opening day, news filtered through announcing the death of her beloved mother.
A sobbing Nyachama initially pulled out of the championship upon hearing the news about the death of her mother.
Perhaps, she was convinced by the family to remain solid and play. She adhered to the advice and played gallantly enroute, winning the MTN Uganda sponsored open with a 7-over 220 gross mark, 5 strokes off the second placed duo of Neema Olomi (Tanzania) and the 2024 Entebbe ladies champion Peace Kabasweka.

“I am grateful for this victory that I dedicate to my late mother,” Nyachama, who won Shs 2.4M spoke to guests and golfers at the 19th-hole celebration party.
“I am humbled by the courage and support from my family members, particularly my sister, who motivated me to play. I played for my late mother,” Nyachama added.

Nyachama claimed a lion’s share of the Shs 10,000,000 total prize money kitty staked by the sponsors.
She was donated an air ticket by Entebbe Club to travel and attend the burial of her late mother.
Olomi tied with Kabasweka in second place with 225 gross after gruelling 54 holes.

Besides trophies and money, the top three golfers earned air tickets courtesy of Uganda Airlines.
Judith Komugisha (235) and Martha Babirye (237) completed the top five positions.
Resty Nalutaaya (243), Joyce Kisembo (244), Meron Kyomugisha (245), Vicky Elias (246), Harsshitha Loganathan (247) and Lillian Koowe (247) were all in the top 11 positions as they had a share of the Shs 10,000,000 prize money.







The individual excelling golfers also received trophies as they were entertained by Michael Ouma and the Band at the 19th hole till the wee hours of Sunday, 1st March 2026.
MTN Uganda Limited headlined the sponsors, accompanied by other stakeholders, such as Uganda Airlines, Uganda Breweries Limited, Entebbe Club, among others.

Entebbe Ladies Captain Maureen Okurra lauded the different sponsors and strategic partners who joined hands collectively to pull off a successful championship.
Entebbe Club will now host the 2026 Victoria Cup (5th to 7th March) involving Kenya and Uganda.
