Uncertainty continues to hover around the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with no activity going on either from CAF or hosts Morocco.

With just 13 days to the proposed kickoff date, several stakeholders have been left hanging in balance about whether the tournament will proceed as earlier scheduled.

Already, the 16 teams are in camp, preparing but it is until today that September Luxolo, the Head of TV and Communications at CAF, has come out to issue a statement.

Luxolo took to his X account to indicate that a statement will be released by CAF regarding WAFCON 2026.

“CAF will communicate within the next 48 hours on the situation regarding the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON26.
There has been several discussions for weeks. The matter is receiving Urgent and high-level attention,” he stated.

Morocco is supposed to host the tournament for the third successive time but ever since the events that unfolded after AFCON 2025, the North African Nation has seemed coy in regard to WAFCON 2026.

There is a belief that the sanctions that were slapped onto Morocco following the AFCON final against Senegal angered them, thus snubbing CAF events.

It should be noted that about a month ago, the Minister of Sports, Art and Culture in South Africa, Gayton McKenzie, expressed the country’s readiness to host the tournament in case Morocco pulls out.
