For nearly two days, the sports fraternity was gripped in fear following the sudden disappearance of former Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi.

Luckily, he is alive and breathing, steadily recovering to normalcy.

According to Uganda Police, Mutebi was discovered in a banana plantation on Monday evening in Kisubi near the famous St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK).

He was then swiftly transferred to Lady Consolata Hospital – Kisubi for swift medical attention.

His immediate family members were notified, and they rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted.

For over 40 hours outside in the cold, Mutebi looked hungry, frail and was speechless.

Doctors executed the mandatory tests and reported that all organs were active and healthy.

“We thank all the people who helped in the quest for the coach. He is alive and will continue to be monitored closely,” Moba, a caretaker, spoke to Kawowo Sports at the hospital.

Mutebi was last seen during a Catholic Church retreat of elderly people held at Kisubi Beach in Katabi Town Council on Saturday, 7th March 2026.

Upon realising that he was not present as the group relocated back to Kampala, Moba made public alarms, and his search started.

Mutebi is a highly respected football coach who has groomed many players from different clubs, such as SC Villa, KCCA FC, Maroons and lately AS Kigali in Rwanda.

He also managed the Uganda Cranes alongside Frank Anyau.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
