Uganda Cup holders Vipers cruised into the last eight of this year’s edition after overcoming Eastern Regional League outfit Iganga United on Wednesday.

Under the floodlights at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, the Venoms earned a 4-0 win to secure their berth in the quarterfinals.

Defender Hillary Mukundane scored twice, while second-half substitute Gusto Mulongo also bagged a brace.

Mukumdane opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a powerful header off Yunus Sentamu’s delivery from a corner kick.

Iganga attempted to march their opponents thereafter but could not find the outlet, with Vipers proving resolute at the back.

It was towards the end of the game that Vipers steered away, scoring three goals inside the final ten minutes to put the contest to bed.

Mulongo doubled Vipers advantage in the 83rd minute with a quick turn and shot into the back of the net.

He got his second three minutes later, heading from close range before Mukundane put the icing on the cake with his second on the day, coming in stoppage time.

Vipers, therefore, join Happy Boys Kagaba, KCCA, NEC and Kitara as teams that have secured their slots into the quarterfinals.

Action continues on Thursday with SC Villa hosting Maroons at FUFA Stadium – Kadiba. The Round of 16 will climax on Friday with a double-header at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, involving Express taking on Red Devo and URA playing Tapoh.
