South Sudan took a massive step towards reaching the group stages of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers following a 4-0 win over Djibouti.

In a game hosted in Juba, The Bright Stars earned a massive first leg advantage with goals from Teng Koul, Justine Bangasi, Peter Maker and Keer Majak.

Koul opened the scores in the first half before the rest got each got a goal in a match played behind closed doors as per CAF directives.

South Sudan will host the return leg on March 29 in Juba but have one foot already in the main qualifiers.

In Bloemfontein, Seychelles held Lesotho to a goalless draw with the two scheduled to face off again three days later.  

On Wednesday, Eritrea overcame Eswatini 2-0 to earn a first leg advantage.

On 27 March, Somalia face Mauritius in the first leg at Lalgy Arena in Matola, before Mauritius host the return encounter at the National Sports Complex in Saint Pierre on 31 March.Chad and Burundi will also begin their battle on 27 March when they meet at Stade Olympique in N’Djamena. The return leg in Bujumbura four days later is expected to be equally competitive.

The six teams that advance will join the 42 other Member Associations of CAF in the Group Phase of qualification ahead of next year’s finals.
