Otto Addo

Just two months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana has parted ways with head coach Otto Addo.

This decision comes shortly after a disappointing string of friendly results, including a 2-1 defeat to 2014 World Cup winners Germany and a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria.

The gaffer who had been in his second stint as head coach since March 2024, now steps down from the role as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) begins to look for a new manager.

The GFA confirmed the development, stating they had parted ways with Addo, with the decision taking immediate effect.

The association added, ‘The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.’

Despite boasting top talents like Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus, Ghana endured a challenging period under Addo, notably failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

At the upcoming World Cup, jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19, Ghana has been drawn in a group alongside England, Panama, and Croatia. Their opening match is scheduled for June 18 against Panama.

  1. I think it is a right decision Ghana was real struggling all through these games – you could see they were just surviving all through compared to their counter parts like senegal and morocco — that displayed mature friendly games
