The crowning ceremony for the March 2026 Fortebet Reals Stars sports awards winners was held at the Nanjing Restaurant and Motel in Kololo, Kampala on Tuesday, 7th April.
Jacob Kiplimo (Athletics), Hassan Alwi (Motorrally), Maureen Kiiza (football) and David Kavuma “De Animal” Ssemujju (boxing) were all crowned as the different winners.
In Athletics, long distance ace Kiplimo who set a new world half marathon record in Lisbon, Portugal won over Abel Chelangat and Sarah Chelangat.
Professional boxer Ssemujju took the accolade over Farahat Manirola and Saiya Nsubuga.
Ssemujju was singled out for the victory over Japan’s undefeated Urashima Masayuki at the Tokyo’s iconic Korakuen hall.
The Ugandan successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific Welteweight title and the Japanese welterweight title for the second title.
Female footballer Maureen Kiiza beat Jovia Nakagolo and Marion Serenge.
Motorrally drivers Hassan Alwi with the co-driver Musa Nsubuga won the motorsport category.
Alwi powered to victory at the NRC Mbale rally.
He beat Moses Lumala and Oscar Ntambi who were also nominated.
“Winning such an accolade is motivating and I am humbled. I thank the organizers of these awards” Alwi remarked.
The crowning ceremony was graced by the Executive Director of Real Stars Sports Agency Isaac Mukasa, flanked by Resty Mbatudde Namugema from the headline sponsors Fortebet Uganda and Eron Cathy Nandawula from the Jude Colour Solutions marketing department.
Mukasa hailed the sponsors and supportive partners for the collective effort to keep these awards flying high.
“I want in a special way thank the sportsmen for the work well done. To our sponsors and partners, I appreciate you in a special way” Mukasa, also a sports journalist remarked.
Since 2018, the Fortebet Real Stars sports awards are held on a monthly basis.
Betting firm Fortebet is the headline sponsor, joined by Jude Colour Solutions.
