Mbarara City’s woes in as far as the relegation battle is concerned are far from over after the Ankole Lions suffered yet another loss on Thursday as they played against Police at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge.
The game ended in a 2-1 win for Police who had to come from a goal down to edge the closely contested game with the winner coming deep in stoppage time.
Muhammad Kanyike gave Mbarara City the lead while Daniel Jakony got the equalizer for the Cops.
The result means Mbarara City remain winless in seven games and have actually managed just one victory in the last twelve games and that came against bottom placed Calvary back in February.
Coming into today’s game, Mbarara City were 14th on the table with 16 points, just one ahead of the drop zone.
It was therefore important for the hosts to pick maximum points and pull away from the relegation dogfight.
Kanyike fired the hosts into the lead at the stroke of halftime but the Cops staged a comeback in the second half to score twice through Daniel Jakony and substitute Paul Mark Teny.
Jakony levelled matters in the 73rd minute before Teny who had replaced Lawrence Tezikya at the start of the second half got a late winner.
The results helps Police to snap a two-game winless run that had seen them lose to Express and NEC and thus remain seventh on the pile with 37 points.
On the other hand, Mbarara City remain 14th on 16 points, one above the red line.
