The 4th edition of the NCBA Coast Junior Open swung into action at the scenic Nyali Golf & Country Club, attracting a strong field of junior golfers from Kenya and across the region.

The three-round championship commenced on Saturday with players battling the coastal conditions in pursuit of top honors and valuable ranking points

At the close of play on day one, Kingsley Afful of Ghana’s Celebrity Golf Club set the early pace in the boys’ field with a composed three-over-par (74).

He holds a slender lead over Kenya’s Maahir Patel of Sigona Golf Club, who returned a four-over-par (75), while Myles Wahome of Vet Lab Sports Club sits close behind at five-over-par (76).

With several players within striking distance, the leaderboard remains tightly contested heading into the second round.

In the girls’ field, Maryam Mwakitawa of Sigona Golf Club delivered an impressive round of three-over-par (74) to emerge as the early leader.

Cherono Kipkorir of Royal Nairobi Golf Club is in second place at ten-over-par (81), with Nyawira Macharia and Britney Nyanchera tied for third at eleven-over-par (82), setting up an intriguing battle in the rounds ahead.

The tournament, sanctioned as a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, also contributes to the Junior Golf Foundation Order of Merit, adding further significance as players seek to improve their standings on both national and global stages.

The championship will be contested over three rounds, with the top 33 players and ties after the second round advancing to the final round.

With the cut line approaching, the second round is expected to be decisive as players intensify their push for qualification into the final day.

Supported by NCBA Group, the Coast Junior Open continues to provide a premier platform for young golfers to gain competitive exposure and develop their game.

The event highlights the continued commitment to nurturing emerging talent and strengthening the future of golf in the region.
