Overview:
Over 80 players graced the 3rd Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile memorial Squash championship in honour of the former Governor for the Bank of Uganda who was an ardent sportsman known for his love for the game of Squash and Golf, among others.

Kampala Club Limited Squash courts were a bive hive of activity during the third edition of the Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile memorial tournament.
Over 80 players graced this championship in honour of the former Governor for the Bank of Uganda who was an ardent sportsman known for his love for the game of Squash and Golf, among others.
By close of business after a week-long event, there were lasting memories created, healthy competitive duels experienced and juicy prizes won, including money kitty.


The men’s final witnessed the reigning champion Paul Kasirye Kadoma win 3-0 over Ivan Wasswa during the thirty minutes’ duel.
Kadoma won the opening set 11-06, he doubled the lead 11-09 and completed the sets 11-07.
“I thank God for this victory” Kadoma sighed during the victory speech. “I thank the sponsors for ensuring that Squash is played. I appreciate the players. We all worked so hard since the tournament commenced. Personally, sometimes, I do not sleep as I put in extra hours of training” he added.


Kadoma’s opponent in the final, Wasswa hailed the competitive spirit. “It was a competitive final. We keep working hard. I will keep working hard.” the medical practioner remaked.
“Today, the predator was hunting but the prey escaped” he joked.
The ladies’ final had Kenya’s number one Jane Njeri convincingly triumph 3-0 over Elizabeth Musiimenta.

Njeri won 11-08, 11-06 and 11-09 during the one-sided duel.
“I am happy for this victory. I thank my opponent in the final (Elizabeth Musiimenta) for the brave showing” Njeri spoke after her victory.


Other winners:
Aaron Isabirye, a primary six pupil at St Benedict Primary School Nansana won the U-12 category.
Usami Ssemakula from Nakasero primary school was runners up. Israel Buyondo and Zion Mwesigwa were semi-finalists.

Plate event:
Sam Mwogeza won the plate cluster after a 3-0 victory over Steven Magero.

Seniors (50 years and above):
In the 50 years and above event, William Byaruhanga was the winner, with Steven Magero playing second fiddle.

The top players received trophies and varying cash prizes. Kampala Club vice chairperson Victor Odongo, Bank of Uganda Deputy Director Kaliisa Katongole and other officials graced the closing ceremony.

Today, also provides an opportunity to honour the life and legacy of Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, who was not only a distinguished economist and public servant, but also a passionate friend of sports, squash in particular. He firmly believed in the power of sport to shape character, sharpen the mind and instill discipline. These are qualities that he demonstrated throughout his leadership. It is therefore most fitting that his legacy continues to be celebrated.

This January, there was also a memorial golf tournament played at Kabale sports club to honour the legacy of Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.
