Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has been ordered to step aside on Friday following allegations of misappropriation of funds.

Mohammed, alongside acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru and National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim, have been told to step aside.

Nine of the fourteen NEC members passed a resolution to have the aforementioned individuals step aside and pave way for investigations into alleged financial misconduct and procurement breaches.

The three allegedly were involved in the fraudulent procurement of an insurance company to the tune of Ksh 42.48 million (about Ush 1.2Billion) during CHAN 2024.

At the same time, the NEC ordered the immediate freezing of all FKF bank accounts linked to Mohammed to avoid any interference with ongoing investigations.

The committee also called for the appointment of an independent auditor to examine all funds received by the federation from key stakeholders, including CAF, FIFA, and the Ministry of Sports.

However, immediately after the decision was made, Mohammed came out to indicate that the NEC meeting convened was unlawful.

“The provisions of the Kenya Football Federation (FKF)statutes clearly outline the procedure of convening a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting,” the statement reads.

“The purported meeting held on 24th April 2026 was not convened in accordance with the FKF constitution (2017) and is therefore irregular, unlawful and unconstitutional. Consequently, any decisions arising from it are null and void,” adds the statement.

According to Article 38, Clause 2 of the FKF Constitution provides that “the President shall convene meetings of the National Executive Committee. Where 50% of the Executive Committee members request a meeting, the President shall convene it within 21 days, failing which members may convene the meeting themselves.”

Mohammed says he did not convene the meeting, and neither did he receive any request for such.

The news broke on Wednesday when the FKF President was in Uganda attending a CAF AFCON 2027 Pamoja preparatory meeting. He says he will address the media on Saturday morning.

From the NEC meeting today, a decision was taken for FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga Wanyama to take over leadership in an acting capacity.
