- APR 3-0 Nemostars (25-20, 25-23, 27-25)
APR Volleyball Club ended Nemostars Volleyball Club’s perfect run in the ongoing CAVB Africa Men’s Club Championship.
APR secured a hard-fought 3-0 victory against Nemostars in the CAVB ACC encounter at the BK Arena, Kigali on Saturday evening.
APR came out of the blocks early, taking the opening period (25-20). The Rwadan side implored a good defence covering, ensuring that Uganda’s best route in Daudi Okello was fully blocked.
This was coupled with a good cover on the floor that saw the libero dig out some good shots, keeping the home side in the driving seat. From the onset, Nemostars failed to handle the pressure, thus making unforced errors.
In the second quarter, Coach Godfrey Okumu made a change in the setter’s position briging on Hussein Adome for Smith Okumu, who looked to have a bad day in office. The change brought fresh energy in the team but APR’s blocking wall studied his game, limiting the penetration.
Despite improving on a number of things about their game, Nemostars trailed by two points (25-23) at the end of a highly competitive period.
In the final set, Nemostars improved greatly, putting a lot of pressure on the ball but somehow fell off on top of the game, trailing 27-25.
It was a heated moment at the end of the day as the referee failed to call for a net touch, but it was too late for the Ugandan side to pull something out of the game.
Nemostars will return to action today (Sunday) as they take on Black Rhinos from Zimbabwe.
