Sport-S players celebrate after beating Cameroon Sportive to reach the CAVB Men's Club Championship Round of 16

Sport-S Volleyball Club made a big stride on their first appearance at the CAVB Men’s Club Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Ugandan champions advanced to the Round of 16 at the 47th Edition of Africa’s premier club competition.

To achieve the feat, Sport-S picked three wins from the five pool games that concluded on Monday with a nail-biting 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 28-30, 26-24, 15-10) against Cameroon Sportive at Petit Stade.

As was the case against INJS, Jonathan Tumukunde once again stepped up to lead the side with 21 points, 7 of which came in the fourth set. Steven Mundua, Emmanuel Okia, and Duke Kymomukama contributed 10 points.

Despite conceding four unanswered points to start the game and falling behind by six (5-11), Sport-S were able to recover and claim the opening set.

Cameroon Sportive controlled the second set before edging the extended third, in which teams went pound for pound before the Cameroonians claimed it, 30-28.

Tumukunde took charge of the attack in the fourth set as Sport-S forced a decider that they dominated.

At the Round of 16, Sport-S will face Rwandan side REG, who are coached by their former tactician Benon Mugisha.
