The Ankole Cup tournament will officially get underway on the 6th June 2026 as Bushenyi hosts Sheema in the main match where the Deputy Speaker for the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa will be the chief guest.

  • Bushenyi District Vs Sheema District (4:30 PM)

With barely a month to the long awaited kick off of the 2026 Ankole Cup, organizers of this tournament have got a mega boost from Wandaz Cosmetics, worthy Ug.Shs 100,000,000.

Wandaz Cosmetics will thus sponsor the prize money for the competition as they also execute the mobile saloons and mobilization drives during the championship.

“We are very humbled for the support from Wandaz Cosmetics Company for the Ug.Shs 100M sponsorship. With the mobile saloons, citizens, most especially women will be able to access saloon services at the games” Osborne Mushabe, the chairperson of the local organizing committee remarks.

Further details of the sponsorship will be spilled out to the public next week during a mega press conference.

The tournament will officially get underway on the 6th June 2026 as Bushenyi hosts Sheema in the main match where the Deputy Speaker for the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa will be the chief guest.

Before the main duel; there will be two curtain-raisers; Nganwa High against St Kagwa as well as the Members of Parliament (MPs) and the media team.

Tournament composition:

There are 13 districts that were drawn in the four different pools.

Group A has Bushenyi district, Sheema district and Ntungamo district.

Kazo district, Ibanda district and Kiruhura district are in group B.

Group C has Isingiro district, Rwampara district, Mbarara City and Kashari.

In Group D, there is Buhweju district, Rubirizi district and Mitooma district.

In total, 43 matches are planned to be played, commencing with the group stages, quarter-finals (two legs), semi-finals (two legs) and the grand finale.

The climax will happen on Sunday, 16th August 2026 at the Kabwohe stadium.

Of the 25 man squad per district, 20 of the players must be born within that exact district and five players who feature in superior leagues can be used.

Top players in the country are lured by the different teams to come and feature in this championship.
