Uganda U17 Men’s National Football Team continue with their preparations ahead of the AFCON U17 tournament slated for this month.
With barely two weeks to the kickoff of the Championship, the Uganda Cubs will step up gears in their preparations, shifting the training camp to Morocco.
After nearly two months of training in Uganda both in Njeru and Kampala, coach Laryea Kingston and his troops will shift to Casablanca, Morocco on Saturday evening.
A provisional squad of 27 players will embark on the journey to North Africa and it is from this group that the final team will be named.
In Morocco, Uganda will hit two birds with one stone; first playing two build up games but also acclimatizing to the conditions ahead of the tournament which will take place in the same country.
Uganda Cubs will okay Mozambique on 5th May before facing Mali four days later.
Coach Kingston believes he has had good preparations with the team and the next step is about fine tuning the players ahead of the tournament.
“There is more room for improvement, but from where we are, we have so much confidence in the team. Whatever we ask them to do, they are doing it now as the boys are taking responsibility. They are finding solutions and solving problems on the pitch. For me, we are moving in the right direction,” he said before adding, “We will use the remaining time to assess our opponents and test our approach in the friendly matches. We want the boys to be sharp in the preparatory games and remain fresh for the tournament.”
At AFCON U17, Uganda is in Group B alongside Ivory Coast, Cameroon and debutants DR Congo.
It should be noted that Uganda managed to be among the top ten teams at last year’s edition thus qualifying to the World Cup for the first time.
