Nigeria and Cameroon have one foot into the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup after earning advantage in the first leg games played on Saturday.
Both Nigeria and Cameroon secured home wins to brighten their chances of qualifying to this year’s edition.
At the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon defeated Tanzania 3-1, coming from a goal down.
Winfrida Gerald had given Tanzania the lead in the 17th minute but Maeva Nyadjou came through with a brace while Kiki Meva got the other goal.
The two teams will face off on Sunday, 10th May at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar for the return leg with the winner on aggregate qualifying to the World Cup.
On the other hand, Nigeria edged Malawi 2-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium thanks to a good start in the second half.
An own goal by Malawi’s Kenneth Maureen and Kindness Chinaza Ifeanyi meant Nigeria leads the tie.
The return leg will be played on Saturday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Elsewhere, the game between Ivory Coast and Benin played at Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan ended in a one-all draw.
N’Guessan Nadège gave Ivory Coast the lead in the 29th minute but Benin were able to respond eight minutes later through Romaine Gandonou.
The two teams will face off next Sunday in Lome, Togo where Benin host their games.
Ghana and Uganda face off today in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium before the return leg in Kampala on Saturday.
It should be noted that Africa will have four teams at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup slated to take place in Poland later this year.
