After spending three consecutive game weeks at the top of the Rugby Premiership table, Toyota Buffaloes dropped to 3rd place following their loss to Victoria Sharks over the weekend.

The Sharks have been blowing hot and cold this season, but when they hosted the Buffaloes at Kyambogo, it was time to blow hot.

Daniel Kateregga’s last-minute penalty kick went through the poles and broke the hearts of the Buffaloes, who were still holding on with a single-point lead.

The game was marred by injuries on both sides, with Ivan Otai of the Sharks going off with a concussion in an incident that involved Buffaloes’ Titus Oyoo. Additionally, Aaron Tukei also had to be forced off the pitch for a head injury assessment.

Buffaloes’ slow start to the game was only made worse by a poor showing by their forward pack, especially in the scrums.

Despite waking up in the second half, the Buffaloes still left many points on the table due to missed conversions and penalties. Their preferred kicker, Yasin Waiswa, was totally ruled out of the fixture against the Sharks, and that put Humphrey Ndahura and Hussein Shein in the precarious position of being the replacement kickers.

For the first time since the restructuring of the league, the Buffaloes are going to finish in the Top 4 at the end of the regular season.

Regardless of whether they lose to KOBs in Game Week 11 and the Heathens defeat the Mongers in Entebbe, the Buffaloes would have exceeded their previous outings.
