As 2026 marks five years of Kids’ Athletics Day,Uganda Athletics is pleased to announce that it will be joining World Athletics in inviting kids across Uganda to join in celebrating everything Kids’ Athletics stands for — movement, learning, inclusion, sustainability and community.

The countdown, however, for Uganda to celebrate the Kids’ Athletics Day is scheduled for 7 May, 2026 in Tororo Municipality, Uganda.

The 2026 World Athletics Kids Athletics Day theme celebrates the power of FIVE, highlighting five years of impact and focusing on celebration and connection.

This year’s campaign encourages local creativity while contributing to one shared global goal: getting more children moving, more often, through athletics.

To celebrate Kids’ Day in the country, Uganda Athletics has lined up several exciting activities including: athletics events to run alongside the Uganda Athletics Greening Tree Planting Campaign within Tororo Municipality.

The kids are scheduled to plant over 1,000 tree seedlings donated by National Forest Authority (NFA) as a tool to build awareness among the youth on issues concerning environment protection in Uganda.

The goal of Uganda Athletics in regard to the greening campaign is to firmly establish an important link between the kids athletics and environment conservation in the country.

The campaign will encourage the kids to prote4 the environment in their homes, training and competitions it esasa starting point in promoting athletics and the environment.

The Uganda Athletics President Domenic Otucet said,”This year’s World Kids day celebrations are highly valued by Uganda Athletics which had the rare opportunity to pioneer the World Athletics programme in 2010.

Uganda has remained committed to celebrating World Kids Day and is proud to be part of the global wave in celebrating five years of World Kid’s Day at King George IV Stadium in Tororo, Eastern Uganda.”

Kids’ Athletics is an initiative that uses the power of athletics to inspire children around the world to be more active.

Since its launch in 2022, Kids’ Athletics Day has grown into a truly global celebration, reaching 1.3 million children world over across schools, clubs and communities.

Each year has authored a new theme, a new challenge and new ways to engage children in fun, inclusive and age-appropriate athletics activities.

The World Athletics’ campaign has set its biggest goal yet: a cumulative total of more than 2 million children participating over five years.

Since 2022, more than  1.3 million kids have joined the fun, and now the aim is to inspire at least 700,000 more to get moving in 2026.
