St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende recorded their first victory at the on-going Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys football competition in Lira city on Tuesday evening.

The multiple national football champions gritted their teeth to overcome the current Kampala region champions Lubiri S.S 2-1 in Group P at the St Katherine Secondary School playground in Boroboro.

Rujumba broke the resilience of the hard fighting Lubiri S.S with the opener following a goal melee.

St Mary’s Kitende doubled their lead when Kyakuuwa struck home the second goal from close range.

Abui pulled back a goal for Lubiri S.S but St Mary’s Kitende held on for the maximum points which gives them 4 points from two matches.

“We played aggressively for the maximum points, I salute the players. We still have a group stage match to play and we look forward a solid performance” Hassan Zzungu, head coach of St Mary’s Kitende remarked after the game.

His counterpart at Lubiri S.S; Dan Ssegawa saluted the brevity of his charges and eyes a do-or-die affair in the last game with Bukedea Comprehensive School North.

“We gave our best in the match against St Mary’s Kitende. Unfortunately, we lost the battle. We shall fight until the last match” Ssegawa hinted.

In the same group, Bukedea Comprehensive School North subjected Seroma Christian High School to a 2-3 defeat, their second at the championship.
