Overview:

Other names that Sakka has been able to bring in is long with discoveries of Hearts forward Rogers Mato, Bright Anukani, Allan Enyau, Edirisa Lubega Torres, Andrew ‘Sgt’ Kawooya plus U17 World Cup finalists Brian Jjara and Steven Oyirwoth as well as promising forward Yian Gatbel who is now part of the KCCA squad.

I shall start from the beginning. While still actively playing football, Sakka Mpiima ventured into coaching his then former immediate school, Dynamic SS in Mukono in his S.6 vacation in 2007.

He later became pro featuring for among others Kinyara, KCCA, UPDF, Proline and Police among others.

His leadership skills earned him an arm band at almost all those clubs and when he officially retired from football, coaching appeared like a calling.

Mike Mutebi, then recruited him as part of his staff and has since stayed at Lugogo and recently handed the reigns of the KCCA Junior Team when Jackson Magera left.

The ex-right back has since taken coaching serious and recently graduated with a CAF B coaching license.

Although he is yet to be tested at a level beyond schools’ football and the Fufa Juniors league where he has led KCCA for the couple of seasons, Sakka’s strengths appears to lie in scouting, identifying and tutoring talent that many could miss.

Indeed, Sakka has an uncanny ability for wonderful footballers.

While still a player at KCCA, he is responsible for the recommendation of striker Derrick Nsibambi and midfielder Yasin Mugume who he coached in school while playing for the Kasasiro.

Fahad Ismael, Ashraf Lukyamuzi, Thomas Ogemba and Jjemba Ukasha who were key in the zonal Cecafa qualifiers are joined by Reagan Lwanga on Larry Kingston side seeking to qualify for the world cup.

It is undeniable that Sakka has the best eye for talent in Uganda football but also true that he is not yet tested at high level.

For now, he is a young budding coach still learning his trade and is part of the current coaching staff under the co-coaching set up of Jackson Magera and Brian Ssenyondo.

Having worked with elite tacticians Mutebi, Abdallah Mubiru and Morley Byekwaso, maybe one day he will stand on his own and deliver but for now, his eagle eye makes him one for the future.
