Amus College, Kyadondo S.S, Nkoma S.S and Mentor SS became the latest schools to progress to the Round of 16 stage at the ongoing USSSA Boys’ Football Championship in Lira.

Kyadondo S.S and Mentor S.S recorded identical 4-0 scorelines over Mukono Kings and Ibanda S.S., respectively, during the Round of 32 contests on Friday.

Amus College needed a 4-2 post-match penalty victory over Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) to confirm their slot at the Round of 16. Normal time at the Lango College playground 1 had ended goalless in the physical and tactical contest.

During the penalties, Mathias Kasadha, Pius Oyirwoth, Captain Iddi Jamil Rashid and Roy Olara were on target for Amus College as Morgan Sserwadda missed his kick, saved by goalkeeper Rashid Wanjala.

Joram Mukisa and Amir Tukwase scored for JIPRA as Martin Ekuma and Surez Musagala missed their respective kicks.

“It was a tough match, but thanks to God that we managed to make it. We now have to recover ahead of the round of 16 match tomorrow (Saturday) against Mentor SS,” Richard Malinga, the head coach of Amus College, remarked.

Mbale city’s Nkoma S.S edged Ssingo S.S 2-1 to join the Round of 16 level.

Like in the early morning games, there was a special moment of silence before kick off in honour of the deceased female basketball player from St Noa Girls School – Zana, Maxine Modesta Anyango, who died on Thursday.

During the early kick-offs, the reigning champions Buddo outsmarted Kisozi Seed 3-0 at the Lira Town College playground. John Bosco Ssembuzi (own goal), Aaron Okello and Hillary Tumwine found the goals for Buddo S.S.

Mbale Progressive, Kawempe Muslim and London College Nansana also progressed to the round of 16.

Mbale Progressive needed a 5-4 post-match penalty victory over Masindi SS after a barren draw at the Lango College playground 1.

Kawempe Muslim defeated Kicwamba High School 2-0 at Dr Obote College playground 1, whilst London College Nansana defeated Agape S.S 2-1.

More matches at the Round of 32 come at 2 PM before the final set at 4 PM.

The Round of 16 matches and other classification matches will be played on Saturday, 16th May 2026 and the quarterfinals on the subsequent day.
