Amus College School edged hard fighting Mentor SS 1-0 during the round of 16 contest at the on-going Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys’ football in Lira city.

Ivan Otim’s superbly drilled free-kick in the 21st minute was the solitary goal for Amus College School who are managed by former Uganda Cranes international Richard Malinga.

“We knew the kind of opponent we were facing being the home side with a big crowd. We had the right mentality and we are glad to qualify for the quarter finals” Malinga spoke after the game.

Before thousands of fans clogged at the Dr Obote College 1 playground, the Bukedea District based school needed a moment of brilliance from Okello whose well struck free-kick from 35 yards eluded the goalkeeper, into the net.

The match was played under heavy security in intense hot weather conditions.

In the other mid-morning round of 16 game, Kyadondo S.S overcame Mbale city’s Nkoma S.S 4-2 in post-match penalties after a goal-less draw in normal time.

Amus College School and Kyadondo S.S join London College Nansana and Buddo SS to the quarter finals.

Kyadondo S.S will face Buddo S.S as Amus College School shall take on London College Nansana in the quarter finals on Sunday, 17th May 2026.

London College Nansana endured a goal-less stalemate after normal time to win the shoot-out 4-2 past Mbale Progressive Secondary School.

In the other round of 16 duel at the Dr Obote College playground 1, holders Buddo S.S defeated Kawempe Muslim S.S 2-1.

Ambrose Aboy scored a brace while Ukasha Kimbowa got the consolation for Kawempe Muslim.

On Saturday afternoon, four more matches at the round of 16 will be completed to confirm the remaining slots to the quarter finals.
