KCCA Leopards edged JKL Lady Dolphins 63-61 in the National Basketball League encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Sunday.
JKL Lady Dolphins suffered back-to-back losses over the weekend after another beating by JT Lady Jaguars on Friday.
The defending champions have suffered a challenging campaign where they lost a crop of experienced players to transfers and injuries.
The Leopards came out of the blocks early, opening a 7-0 run before Florence Ogundha’s long shot fell. It was a shooting contest as several efforts fell beyond the paint as the Dolphins trailed by 17 points at the end of the period.
The Lady Dolphins took the second quarter 18-12, bringing down the deficit to eight points (39-31). The fight gave the game life going into the second half.
Shadia Nassaga’s jumpshot got the third frame underway before Margaret Bagaala responded with a massive 3-point jump shot. Shiphrah Kiranda concluded the period with one from downtown as the Lady Dolphins trailed by six points.
With 50 seconds, Agnes Ngeri’s long-range shot brought the Lady Dolphins’ deficit to only two points but it was too late to get something positive.
Tracy Namugosa (16 points), Ninette Uwineza (14 points) and Susan Aanyu (10 points) led the Leopards’ scoring chart in double digits.
Kiranda (18 points) and Shadia Nassanga (13 points) led the Lady Dolphins’ scoring chart in double digits.
