Sabri Lamouchi wants Tunisia to make history by reaching the knockout stages of the Fifa World Cup for the first time.
The Carthage Eagles, first played at the biggest stage in 1978 but have failed to make it out of the group in all appearances.
They are in Group F alongside giants Netherlands, Sweden and Asian sides Japan.
Speaking to Fifa.com, Lamouchi who coached Ivory Coast at the 2014 wants a hard fighting side in United States, Canada and Mexico.
“I don’t think Tunisia won a single game at the 2006 World Cup. In 2018, we won one match. And in 2022, we won one match,” said Lamouchi.
“We drew with Denmark and we beat France, but those four points were not enough to qualify,” he explained.
“This time, under the new format, four points might be enough to qualify. We have to fight for those points again, against Sweden in the first match, against the best team in Asia, Japan, and of course, the great side of the Netherlands, who need no introduction.”
Tunisia qualified for the 2026 edition without conceding a goal but had an underwhelming performance at the Afcon 2025 in Morocco and that led to the sacking of coach Sami Trabelsi.
