- San Francisco Bay Arena 10pm [EAT]
Qatar and Switzerland open their campaign in Group B with either aiming for three points to take charge of the group following a draw between co-hosts Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The 2022 hosts are only playing in their second World Cup after their maiden appearance as hosts in the previous edition and qualified at the expense of UAE.
That cant be said of Switzerland who have consistently played at this stage and will be featuring for a 13th time at the 2026 edition.
Whereas Qatar have never won a game in the world cup, Switzerland have done better reaching the quarter finals in 1934, 1938 and 1954, while they have not been knocked out in the group stage since 2010.
Managed by Murat Yakim, they will be favourites to come out of the group this time round again.
Julien Loptegui’s men will rely on striker Akram Afif for goals after he scored 39 times already for his country.
For Switzerland, a lot of match winners on the team including Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka, Breel Embolo and Zeki Amdouni.
The two sides have only met once in the past with Qatar winning the encounter 2-1 in 2018.
