The golden sands of Bamboo Gardens Beach Soccer Arena in Kasanje once again became the stage for a thrilling showcase of skill and resilience as Kampala City Beach Soccer Club successfully defended their FUFA Beach Soccer League title, defeating St. Lawrence University BSC 5-2 in an entertaining 2025/26 season finale.
It was a championship performance that reflected months of consistency and dominance, capping off a campaign that highlighted not only Kampala City’s superiority but also the exciting evolution of beach soccer in Uganda.
Long before the final whistle, Kampala City BSC had established itself as the team to beat.
They finished at the summit of the regular season standings with 33 points from 14 matches, winning 11 games while scoring an impressive 81 goals and conceding just 36. Their attacking football and disciplined defending saw them finish ahead of fellow playoff contenders St. Lawrence University BSC, MUBS BSC and Mutoola BSC.

In the semifinals, Kampala City overwhelmed Mutoola BSC 8-4 in a goal-filled encounter inspired by an extraordinary performance from Godfrey Edweu, who found the back of the net six times, while Brian Nkuubi added a brace.
St. Lawrence University earned its place in the final after defeating MUBS BSC 5-3, with Swaleh Ssimbwa and Paul Lukyamuzi each scoring twice and Martin Kikambi adding another to complete a convincing victory.
With the league’s two best sides facing off, the championship match promised excitement and delivered exactly that.
Kampala City struck with confidence and purpose, taking control of the game through Hassan Ali and the deadly duo of Sharif Opuuli and Godfrey Edweu, who each scored twice. Despite goals from Jonathan Kikonyogo and Sharif Lubega for St. Lawrence University, the defending champions proved too clinical, sealing a commanding 5-2 victory and successfully retaining their league crown.

The triumph marked Kampala City’s second FUFA Beach Soccer League title and further cemented its status as one of the country’s premier Beach Soccer clubs.
For head Coach Salim Jamal Muwonge, the victory carried special significance. Having spent years both playing and coaching beach soccer without lifting a major trophy, the championship represented a personal breakthrough.
“I am extremely happy because this is my maiden trophy,” he reflected after the match.
He credited the success to the discipline and commitment of his players, revealing that the team’s tactical execution was exactly as planned.
“We scored early and then focused on managing the game before finishing strongly. The players followed every instruction perfectly.”
Beyond club success, Muwonge believes the achievement strengthens his credentials within Uganda’s national beach soccer setup, where he has previously served in an interim coaching role.
Kampala City’s dominance extended beyond the team trophy into the individual awards. Sharif Opuuli was named the league’s Most Valuable Player after consistently influencing games throughout the season. Godfrey Edweu finished as the league’s Top Scorer, capping a remarkable breakthrough campaign that established him as one of Uganda’s brightest young talents.
Goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa completed Kampala City’s award collection by taking home the Best Goalkeeper accolade.
Meanwhile, MUBS BSC’s Zzinda Ali received the Best Coach award after guiding his side to a third-place finish despite a squad heavily affected by university holidays and examinations.
Mengo Hill BSC earned recognition as the Fair Play Team, highlighting the sportsmanship that characterised the competition.
The Team of the Season featured Rogers Omedwa, Sharif Opuuli and Godfrey Edweu from Kampala City alongside Mutoola’s Peter Mukwata and Buganda Royal Institute’s Joseph Ssendi.
