Before the scorecards could settle and the dust from the opening deliveries had cleared, Matchday One of the 2026 Women’s T20 National League Division One had already told an intriguing story.
It was a story of experienced players leading from the front, emerging stars announcing themselves, disciplined bowling units suffocating opposition batting line-ups and a reminder that Uganda’s domestic women’s league remains crucial to the Victoria Pearls pipeline.
While Olila CC delivered a ruthless demolition of Jinja SSS, Soroti City CC relied on the calm authority of captain Janet Mbabazi and a collective bowling masterclass to begin their campaign in style.
After Patricia Timong contributed 35 and Jimia Muhammed added 17, Mbabazi took complete ownership of the innings. Her 58 off 41 deliveries, featuring seven boundaries, balanced aggression with composure and carried Soroti to 133/8 despite late wickets.
National team regulars Proscovia Alako, Naume Jane Amongin and Sarah Tino all fell cheaply, but their bowling was a redemption. Amongin claimed 2/12 while Tino produced an exceptional spell of four overs, two maidens, one wicket and just four runs conceded as Wanderers finished on 68/9.
Olila CC were equally impressive. Esther Iloku scored a fluent 60 before Malisa Ariokot blasted an unbeaten 53 to guide the side to 133/3. Kevin Amuge struck with the first ball of the chase before Lorna Anyait, Sarah Akiteng, Martha Amayo, Immaculate Nandera and Devine Gabriella Nyamer shared wickets in a crushing 93-run victory over Jinja SSS.
