Kylian Mbappe celebrates the first of his two goals against Senegal.

2026 FIFA World Cup (Group I):

  • France 3-1 Senegal

France defeated Senegal 3-1 in Group I of the on-going 2026 FIFA World Cup at the New York New Jersey stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Kylian Mbappe struck a brace and Bradley Barcola scored two second half goals for the French, 2022 losing finalists to Argentina in Qatar.

After largely a promising first half for Senegal, where Nicholas Jackson hit the lower post and Ismailia Sarr blasted over from close range, it was the European side that took the lead in the subsequent stanza.

Mbappe scored in the 66th minute for the opener before substitute Barcola got the second goal with 8 minutes to play.

Senegal pulled back a goal through Ibrahim Mbaye’s decent goal in the 5th minute of added time.

Sixty seconds later, Mbappe scored his second on the evening, France’s third with a wonder shot from 35 yards away from goal to seal the victory.

This was Mbappe’s 57th goal in 99 international games for France.

Norway face Iraq in Group I’s other duel at the Boston stadium in Foxborough as the French take early charge of the pool.

Later on, the reigning champions Argentina kick off their title defence against North Africans Algeria at the Kansas city stadium in Kansas city during Group J.

The other Group J contest has Austria against Jordan at the San Francisco Bay Area stadium, Santa Clara.
