Mburo Blasters ascended to the top of the Great Lakes T20 Men’s tournament after a comprehensive six-wicket win against the Bunyonyi Warriors.
The win moved the Blasters to the top of the table because table leaders Kyoga Avengers lost to the Victoria Strikers.
Bunyonyi Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first. Anas Baig (52) with his third half century and Robinson Obuya (21) got them to a strong start with an opening stand of 72 inside 8 overs, and even the departure of the latter never slowed them down.
Paul Mulongo (43) got support from the middle order to move the top to a commanding 195/4 in their quota of 20 overs.
In the run chase, Fahad Mutagana (30) and Charles Mushemeza (50) put on an opening stand of 68 inside five overs, and from there on, they just made a charge for it with Captain Riazat Ali Shah (57) and Stephen Wabwose (34) making sure of the win at the backend.
The win moved Mburo Blasters to the top of the table, tied on the same number of points with Kyoga Avengers but with a better net run rate.
In the morning, Victoria Strikers continued their fine form with a third win on the bounce against table leaders Kyoga Avengers.
Simon Ssesazi (70) anchored the run scoring for Victoria Strikers with only Jaffer Ochaya (34) in support to make sure they got to 164/8.
In the run chase, Kyoga Avengers failed to build meaningful partnerships, and that meant that they had a lot of work to do at the backend, ultimately falling short of the target by four runs.
Victoria Strikers prevailed in the end to remain two points off the leaders in third place.
On the final day of the tournament, Kyoga Avengers take on Bunyonyi Warriors while Mburo Blasters will face Victoria Strikers.
Victoria Strikers have an outside chance of coming from behind to win it, but they will need to win their game and so pray for some help from Bunyonyi Warriors against Kyoga Avengers.
