Deniz Undav celebrates one of his two goals against Ivory Coast

Germany recovered from a goal down to outsmart Ivory Coast 2-1 in Group E at the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Toronto Stadium on Saturday evening.

Deniz Undav struck a brace to take his tournament tally to three goals, the same as Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Ivory Coast shocked the four-time World Cup winners (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014) with Franck Kessie’s goal on the half-hour mark.

The African ambassadors bossed the opening stanza 1-0.

Germany replied through VfB Stuttgart forward Undav in the 68th minute before the same player grabbed a last-minute gasp winner.

The victory secured Germany’s slot in the Round of 32, joining the tournament co-hosts Mexico and the United States of America (USA).

Germany opened their Group E campaign in a ruthless manner, humiliating debutants Curacao 7-1 at the Houston stadium.

In this match, Kai Havertz led with a brace, with the other goals coming from Felix Kalu Nmecha, Nico Cedric Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Christopher Brown and Deniz Undav.

Livano Shyrpn Liomar Comenencia got the consolation, a historical goal for Curacao.

Curacao face Latin Americans Ecuador, on Sunday morning at the Kansas City stadium in Kansas City.

The last group E matches will be played concurrently on 25th June 2026.

Curacao tussles with Ivory Coast at the Philadelphia stadium, and Germany shall take on Ecuador at the New York-New Jersey stadium in East Rutherford.
