Bronze Division | Semifinals Results

  • Centurion 202/4 beat Kifaru 198 all out by 6 wickets
  • Pak Shaheens 187 all out beat Tornado 89 all out by 98 runs

Centurion got through a pressure cooker of a game to earn themselves a place in the Silver Division of the Cricket Uganda 50 Over League next year.

The side added some reinforcements for this crucial game with Davis Karashani joining some youngsters from Rwanda that included Martin Akayezu, Emile Rukiriza and Aime Mucodusenge, who all feature for the Rwanda national team.

Kifaru won the toss and batted first. They started briskly with the opening pair putting on 64, and that was the sliding door moment for the Centurion, who continued making inroads and only got frustrated with the last wicket partnership that was worth 48 and moved the score to 198 all out.

In the run chase, Centurion was reduced to 23/3 and was in trouble, but a fourth wicket partnership worth 174 between the experienced pair of Davis Karashani (103) and Brian Masaba (62) got Centurion over the line in a great contest at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The two former Cricket Cranes captains played for time and completely frustrated Kifaru and once their prey was weak, they started finding the range with some big shots played by the pair.

Karashani stroked a fine century that included 11 boundaries and four maximums, and he found a willing partner in Masaba, who scored five boundaries in his half-century.

The win earns Centurion a step up into the Silver Division, while Kifaru will have to wait another year.

In the other semifinal, Pak Shaheens dominated Tornado to win by 89 runs in a game that was delayed by a wet surface.

Pak Shaheens batted first, with Sunil Kumar (56) and Yasi Malik (40) making notable contributions in a team total of 187 all out in 36 overs.

In reply, Tornado was reduced to 29/4, and they never recovered from that poor start. Despite some low guard resistance, Pak Shaheens held on to wrap up the win by 98 runs.

The runs decided who gained promotion, with Centurion ensuring that they are faultless in the chase against Kifaru on a flat deck. In the end, not enough runs were scored by Kifaru despite their good start, while Pak Shaheens just did enough with the bat to help them gain promotion.
