Egypt recovered from a goal down to outsmart New Zealand 3-1 in Group G of the on-going 2026 FIFA World Cup at the BC Place Vancouver stadium.

Finn Surman gave New Zealand the lead on the opening quarter hour mark as they bossed the first half 1-0.

Three second half goals from Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah and second half substitute Trezeguet ensured that Egypt has their first ever victory at the FIFA World Cup tournament.

The victory thus propelled Egypt to the summit of Group G with four points after the 1-all draw with Belgium.

“The victory is achievement for all the players. We also want to qualify from the group and make history. Next game is very important; we have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow and enjoy after” Mo Salah who was named man of the match remarked.

Belgium’s second game was a goalless draw with Iran. Nathan Ngoy was sent off for Belgium in the 67th minute.

Egypt and Belgium played to a 1-all draw in Group G of the on-going 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Seattle stadium on Monday evening.

Group G climaxes on 27th June 2026 with the last two fixtures played on the same day and time.

New Zealand will play Belgium at the BC Place Vancouver stadium in Vancouver city.

At the same time, Egypt will take on Iran at the Seattle stadium in Seattle city.

Egypt needs maximum points to top this group but a draw will be enough to confirm a slot at the round of 32 stage.
