Ahead of the highly anticipated friendly match against Rwanda, Uganda Silverbacks head coach Mandy Juruni has expressed strong optimism following the squad’s opening training session, highlighting a renewed focus on tactical execution, physical conditioning, and team synergy.

The seasoned tactician noted that the initial practice session laid crucial groundwork for the team’s upcoming campaign, particularly in dissecting offensive breakdowns and building on-court chemistry.

“It was a good session that was focusing on offensive breakdowns, our conditioning, and chemistry,” Juruni said. “I am happy with the progress we are making. We are working with 10 players, and it’s good as we keep preparing for the game.”

The team is currently operating with a slightly shorthanded roster as they await the arrival of two remaining players, who are expected to join camp shortly. In the interim, the upcoming practice match against regional rivals Rwanda presents a timely litmus test for the coaching staff to evaluate their current standing.

“As we wait for those two, we have a friendly game against Rwanda. It’s a practice game that will help us know where we are and help us plan going forward,” Juruni explained.

The camp received a significant psychological and leadership boost with the arrival of the team captain. As one of the program’s longest-serving anchors, his veteran presence is expected to stabilize a roster that features a blend of established pillars and fresh talent.

“We had our captain join the group. He is one of the longest-serving members of the team, and so his presence is a great addition,” Juruni noted, adding that he is “looking forward to seeing how he plays with the rest of the group.”

With several newcomers yet to share the floor with the veteran skipper, the coaching staff is viewing this preparatory window as a critical phase for roster integration.

“We have a few new players who have not played with him, but the time here will help the team become a better unit,” Juruni concluded.

The friendly fixture against Rwanda will serve as a foundational baseline for Juruni and his staff as they fine-tune their tactical blueprint ahead of upcoming competitive engagements.
