Co-hosts Canada and South Africa face off at the Sofi stadium on Sunday in a grudge match as either target to become first nation to reach the round of 16.

Canada finished second in group B, behind Switzerland following win over Qatar, a draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina and defeat to eventual group leaders.

On the other hand, South Africa began the campaign with a 2-0 defeat to co-hosts Mexico before holding Czech Republic to a 1-1 draw and then against all odds, beating South Korea 1-0 to finish second in group A.

It is the first time both nations have reached the knock out stages of the global showpiece and now will be bidding to go even further.

Bafana Bafana have only faced Canada on one previous occasion, recording a 2-0 win in a friendly back in November 2007, so this will be the first competitive game between the two sides.

Canada have no Ismael Kone, ruled out of the tournament after he broke his leg in the 6-0 win over Qatar and could be joined by Stephen Eustaquio (muscle) and Alfie Jones (fitness), with the pair facing late examinations.

Alphonse Davies has been declared fit and could play his first match in the competition.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana welcome Teboho Mokoena from suspension but Themba Zwane remains out as he serves the third and final match of his suspension.

The winner of this clash will face either Netherlands or Morocco in the round of 16, ahead of a potential quarter-final against favourites France or Germany.
