South Africa celebrations after qualifying for the round of 32

The group stages of the 2026 Fifa World Cup is now complete with 32 nations marching on to the next round while 16 have packed their bags and left.

The top two in each group alongside the best third ranked eight nations now know who they will face in the first knock out round of the global showpiece in United States, Canada and Mexico.

Nine of the ten African nations including debutants Cape Verde as well DR Congo playing in the world cup for the first time since 1974 plus 2022 semi-finalists Morocco with Tunisia the only one to leave after failing to pick any point.

Defending champions Argentina, record holders Brazil and former winners Germany, England, Spain as well perennial dark horses Netherlands and Portugal are also in the mix.
