UPDF Handball Club produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Prisons Handball Club 26-25 in an entertaining Uganda Handball Super League encounter at Old Kampala Sports Hall.
Prisons looked in complete control during the opening half, taking a commanding 17-11 lead into the break after an impressive attacking display. Their fast-paced offense and disciplined defence kept UPDF on the back foot for much of the first 30 minutes.
However, the second half belonged to UPDF. The army side emerged from the interval with renewed energy, gradually reducing the six-goal deficit through improved defensive organization and clinical finishing. As the match entered its closing stages, the momentum had completely shifted in their favour.
UPDF completed the comeback by edging ahead in the dying moments, securing a hard-fought 26-25 victory and leaving Prisons HC to rue a missed opportunity after leading comfortably at halftime.
For Prisons HC, Victor Obedmoth led the scoring charts with an outstanding 10 goals, while Walter Okot added 7, and Amos Abesigamukama contributed 5 goals. Their efforts, however, were not enough to prevent defeat.
UPDF’s victory was built on a balanced attacking performance. Felix Mukunzi and Daniel Comboni each scored 6 goals, while Medard Twine added 5 and Vincent Tibamwenda chipped in with 4, providing the firepower that inspired the comeback.
The victory highlights UPDF HC’s resilience and fighting spirit, overturning a six-goal halftime deficit to claim maximum points.
For Prisons HC, the result will be particularly disappointing after controlling much of the contest, as they were unable to protect their first-half advantage against a determined UPDF side.
