Kitara president Deo Kasozi has set huge ambitions for the club ahead of the highly anticipated busy 2026/27 season for the club.
The Royals lifted the Stanbic Uganda Cup last season after edging SC Villa 2-1 at Fufa Technical centre, Njeru to earn a ticket to represent Uganda in the Caf Confederation Cup.
In an extensive interview on Akaboozi Radio, Kasozi spoke about a wide range topics but hinted that the club wants to do better on the continent and also go for the league title.
Caf, league and Hoima stadium
“This season, the target is to go as far as the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup,” he said. “On our maiden continental appearance, we had issues especially logistical and couldn’t host our matches at home and that affected us so much,” he added before revealing that the club has been granted permission to host their continental matches at Hoima stadium.
“With an MOU already signed that grants to use Hoima stadium for our Caf matches, we are now more than confident of doing better since we shall have the support of fans that we missed when we hosted matches in Libya.
Kasozi is confident the stadium will have passed a Caf inspection that is due in the next few days.
The Bunyoro based side has won the domestic cup twice but fell short on winning the league again and Kasozi now wants the championship.
“We have won the cup twice but next season, our main focus will be on winning on the league and so competitors beware,” he stressed.
Squad re-energizing
Kitara are yet to make any official signing but Kasozi says they are going into the market strategically and will boost the squad with quality players hinting that some of their targets are in the big clubs like Villa, KCCA and Vipers
“I think last season; we fell short in the league because we lacked depth in some areas especially goalkeeping but we are already looking at strengthening the squad with quality players
“The targets are already identified and some are within those big clubs like Vipers, KCCA and SC Villa so our fans should be confident of a better team next season.”
On the coaching staff
Next season, Fufa has issued a statement that the head coach and his assistant must hold a CAF A coaching license but Wasswa Bbosa, one of the most influential figures on the Kitara bench is lacking that qualification.
“We believe that by the time the season starts, that area will be sorted and hopefully, there will be enrolment for CAF A studies and as a club, we are ready to support all our coaches including Bbosa attain the required credentials.”
Royal Park Butema refurbishment
The flamboyant president also hinted at improving the club’s home ground especially the playing surface to very good standards but said with government working on facilities for Afcon 2027 including training grounds, the club will have more options on the pitches in the future.
