Makerere College lifted the overall Schools’ title in the Central 7s to qualify for the National Ball Games II as champions.
MACOS, as they are fondly known, won 3 of 4 central circuits, only losing out in the second circuit to eventual overall first runners-up, London College School in sudden death at the tournament held at St. Joseph’s Nazareth, Katende, who are new entrants to the competition.
MAACOS emerged as winners with 85 points overall, while London College followed closely behind with 79 points to book their slots for the national stage.
The first circuit of the Central Schools’ 7s was supposed to be held at King’s College Budo, but the circuit was moved to London College, with the former entirely pulling out of the competition.
The second and third circuits were held at St. Joseph’s and Kambogo College, respectively, while the final circuit was played at Makerere University Rugby Grounds.
In the final tournament, MACOS smoothly sailed through the group stages, thanks to their mercurial captain Lamot Magali, only facing their biggest challenge in the semifinal, winning 14-10 against St. Peter’s Naalya (SPENA).

The title means a lot to us all. It is a confidence booster to the boys, and it means our systems are working, and we just have to keep doing what is working and do much more to consolidate the success we have attained this year.
Josiah Ssempeke – Head Coach, Makerere College
MACOS will be joined by 10 other boys’ and 5 girls’ central schools, while 25 other schools from across the country shall also compete at the National Ball Games II to be held at Sacred Heart School in Gulu.
