NCBA Bank Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, promoting education, healthy living, and community initiatives that create lasting social impact through its partnership with Makerere University at the official launch of the NCBA – Makerere Run, 2026 edition.
The launch, held at Makerere University, brought together university leadership, corporate partners, students and members of the media to unveil this year’s edition of the annual Marathon, which has become one of Uganda’s flagship community sporting events.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of NCBA Bank Uganda, Mark Muyobo said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to creating sustainable impact through investments in education, sports and community initiatives.

We believe that when opportunity is made accessible, ambitions become achievable, communities prosper and nations thrive.”
The Chief Executive Officer said NCBA Bank Uganda is proud to support Makerere University, recognising its role in producing leaders, driving innovation and contributing to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
“Our partnership with Makerere University reflects our belief that sustainable development is achieved through strong collaborations. Universities play a vital role in shaping future leaders, fostering innovation and driving economic transformation. As a bank committed to empowering individuals and businesses, supporting such institutions aligns perfectly with our purpose,” Muyobo said.
The bank noted that the Makerere Marathon continues to bring together students, alumni, staff, corporate organizations and members of the public around a common cause while encouraging healthy lifestyles and community engagement.
NCBA Bank Uganda said its support for the initiative is part of its broader Sustainability agenda, which focuses on community engagement, education, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability and sports development.
Organized annually by Makerere University, the event has become one of Uganda’s largest inclusive runs, welcoming participants of all abilities. Makerere Marathon 2026, will feature a full 42.2 km professional race alongside the 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km races.
“The Makerere University Marathon has grown into far more than a sporting event. It is a platform that transforms lives through education by bringing together students, alumni, corporates and the wider community to support a meaningful cause while promoting healthy living and community engagement.” said Muyobo.
This year’s event is expected to attract thousands of participants, including elite athletes, students, alumni, and fitness enthusiasts, firmly establishing the Makerere Marathon as one of Uganda’s leading sports and charity events.
Muyobo encouraged Ugandans from all walks of life to participate in this year’s event, describing the run as an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while promoting personal wellness.
“Today’s launch marks the beginning of another exciting journey. We encourage every Ugandan whether you are a student, alumnus, corporate partner, athlete or fitness enthusiast to register, participate and become part of this important cause,” Muyobo said.
In July 2025, NCBA pledged UGX 1.45 billion over the next five years to support the marathon and the impact projects it funds.
As the country’s oldest and most prestigious institution of higher learning, Makerere University has in recent years placed inclusive development at the heart of its long-term strategic vision.
NCBA Bank Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to building partnerships that create shared value and contribute to Uganda’s long-term development.
